Boston Area Impeachment News

August 14 2007: A Boston area impeachment group met with Congressman Mike Capuano (Cambridge Chelsea, Somerville, and most of Boston.) The hour-long meeting was attended by about a dozen activists urging Capuano, who already supports censure of Bush, to support Congressman Dennis Kucinich's impeachment effort, HR 333.

Capuano stated that ending the war is the priority, that impeachment is a distraction, "moving the goalpost," and that the Kucinich bill is procedurally flawed. He encouraged Citizens to continue speaking out and meeting with ther Representatives, noting that congressional signatures added to the Kucinich bill and various other censure and impeachment legislative actions strengthen the opposition to the Iraq war.

Capuano's voting record demonstrates strong principles at a time when many Democrats seem easily cudjoled with ludicrous, misleading or hypocritical labels such as the infamous "Patriot Act," certainly the most anti-patriotic, (if not downright illegal) legislation in our young Democracy's (or pseudo-democracy's) history. Capuano voted against renewing and deepening the Patriot Act. He also stated that Congress properly declares war, not the Executive, and that this is one of his political goals. My question then, is what better way than impeachment to reaffirm the authority of Congress, as the Executive and it's own stacked and overly-sympathetic Supreme Court (who, rather than allowing a new election, a routine method for dealing with fumbled elections, simply appointed King Bush II ...problem solved.) are eviscerating our nation's constitution and due process.

Considering the thousands-strong angry mob that surrounded John Ashcroft's Faneuil Hall "Patriot Act Tour" visit, (which was restricted to the public, as he addressed enforcement types,) I'd say he's on the mark with popular opinion in Boston.
